MMO, MFO and PAM training courses consist of both classroom (held either in person, or via our online training platform) and practical (in person) components.
are approximately 1.5-2 days duration, depending on the complexity of the project. Full MMO/MFO/PAM training courses (including training for the seismic industry) are typically 4-5 days in duration.
Advanced New Zealand PAM Operator Assessment
Blue Planet Marine and Seiche have combined forces and created the BPM/Seiche Advanced NZ PAMO (Passive Acoustic Monitoring Operators) Assessment. It is the only assessment for experienced PAMOs approved by the NZ Government as meeting the required standards. Only candidates with 12 or more weeks’ experience as a PAMO on marine seismic surveys (anywhere in the world) may undertake the Assessment.
New Zealand MMO Course for people new to the industry
Marine Mammal Observers (MMOs) wishing to work on marine seismic surveys in New Zealand waters must successfully complete a training course consistent with the standards outlined in the 2013 Code of Conduct for Minimising Acoustic Disturbance to Marine Mammals from Seismic Survey Operations. Blue Planet Marine’s NZ MMO Course is one of the few courses approved by the New Zealand Government as meeting these standards.
Environmental services for NZ seismic operations
BPM has delivered thousands of MMO/MFO and PAMO days to industry and government organisations throughout the Pacific. We are the most experienced provider of observer services for seismic surveys in NZ waters and since 2012 have delivered more than 1,200 person days under the NZ Code of Conduct. BPM has developed environmental documents required for project planning, approval and implementation. This includes MMIA, MMMP and Final Summary Reporting documents.
